This type of inspection allows for the verification, with micrometer precision, of critical parameters such as thickness, density, porosity, interfacial adhesion, and coating microstructure.
After sectioning the sample, the surfaces are prepared according to a standardized metallographic protocol (coating, polishing, etc.), then analyzed using microscopes to evaluate:
• The continuity of the coating
• The quality of adhesion to the substrate
• The homogeneity of successive layers.
