Tungsten carbide

Tungsten carbide combined with a metal base is one of the best known carbides and adapts to many conditions of use.

The characteristics of tungsten carbide

The tungsten carbide / metal base composition is variable and allows the characteristics of this material to be adapted to different conditions of use.

The metal base (cobalt or nickel) serves as a binder in the composition of this carbide and is produced in powder metallurgy by a sintering process. Tungsten carbide, which is very hard, makes it possible to obtain parts with excellent mechanical characteristics, ensuring in particular great resistance to wear. The addition of cobalt makes it possible to limit the fragility of tungsten carbide by increasing the ductility of the material.
