Fluoropolymers

Fluoropolymers form a class of their own in the wide range of coatings available to the industry.

The features of fluoropolymers

Fluorinated polymers are materials with high added value, and have remarkable properties that have earned them extensive use in many advanced technology sectors. In general, the presence of fluorine in the composition of polymers:

  • improves thermal insulation and chemical resistance,
  • delays or inhibits the spread of flames (fire resistance),
  • lowers critical surface tension,
  • decreases the coefficient of friction,
  • and enhances the dielectric characteristics.

They can also be used as lubricating or non-stick fillers in resins, thus allowing low processing temperatures.

  • Type: PTFE, PFA, FEP and ETFE
  • Format : Coating or foil
  • Thickness: from 3 µm to several millimeters
  • Application temperature: between room temperature and 400°C
  • Operating temperature: – 220°C to + 260°C

ECTFE, copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene

The coating for harsh chemical and thermal environments.

HALAR® is a thermoplastic coating based on ECTFE: 1:1 of ethylene and monochlorotrifluoroethylene.
Applicable in thicknesses of 0.5 to 1.5 mm, it is intended to solve severe chemical attack problems by avoiding the use of high-grade steels. This coating is also characterized by excellent dielectric and mechanical properties.

  • Type: ECTFE
  • Format : Coating film
  • Thickness: from 3 µm to several millimeters
  • Application temperature: 300°C
  • Operating temperature: -80 to +175° C

Polyvinylidene fluoride

PVDF is an exceptional resin for a variety of coatings.

Initially used for its electrical insulation properties, PVDF withstands ultraviolet rays, offers good resistance to fire and corrosive chemical agents like other fluoropolymers. The finishes obtained are particularly suitable for applications in the fields of automotive, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and industry more generally.

  • Type: PVDF
  • Format : Coating film
  • Thickness: 200 to 600 µm
  • Application temperature: 230 to 270°C
  • Operating temperature : -100 to +120° C
